Running for Mercy Center
A FUNDRAISING EFFORT
On Sunday, April 23rd I (Seamus) will be running in the Brooklyn Half Marathon to help raise money for Mercy Centre and to honor the memory of Mick Moloney and all the work he did for them over the years.
Last month I had the privilege of being a part of a series of concerts organized by the Irish Arts Center to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Mick Moloney. A highlight among many was a segment which showed Mick’s work with Mercy Centre, a charitable foundation in Bangkok, Thailand, which has provided much needed aid to the impoverished of the community for the past 40 plus years. Among the many services it provides, caring for children living with HIV/AIDS is a hugely important one. It provides a place where they can receive a high level of care, and where every child has the chance to go to school, make friends and explore a world of childhood opportunities in sports, music, and the arts without discrimination.
This work was near and dear to Mick’s heart. He devoted much of his time while in Bangkok to helping Mercy Centre in whatever way he could. Even if it was just to sing John of Dreams to the children to help them drift off to sleep!
The work of Mercy Center is ongoing and is in constant need of financial support.
